On November 6 & 7, 2026 in the Glass Studio at WheatonArts we will host Transparent Thresholds, a symposium on the evolution of technologies for manufacturing flat glass used in architecture, scientific instruments, photo plates, automotive and screen technologies.

We revisit a historic moment when a wide array of machines/processes operated simulteanously, before the float method and fusion draw came to dominate the industry. In doing so, we seek new entry points into expertise, process, and embodiment long obscured by an industrial vision for complete visual absence: the colorless, distoritionless threshold.
